Note: Whitegates is managed by Martin & Co. Go check their reviews as well. We moved 300+ miles from Bournemouth to rent a property from Whitegates. Joe, who has now left the business was lovely and our move in was perfect. We paid all our rent up front. However, we started to discover lots of problems with the property after we moved in. The sockets in the kitchen were arcing, tripping the power and there was rising damp in both the kitchen and the lounge. Wallpaper peeling, large holes in the lounge hidden by a large canvas, bath panel came away, chimney leaked water into the bedroom, bits of brick landing on my fiancee's desk among other issues... Whitegates dragged their heels on every repair and then 3.5 months in, decided to tell us we were to be issued with a Section 21 eviction notice (this notice is not like a Section 8, which is for difficult tenants). We were compliant and started looking for properties, but understandably wanted compensation for our move. We will have to move all our belongings again, change all our addresses, change insurance (with fees) etc. We asked for £480 to cover this cost. They refused point blank. Note that the cost of a Section 21 is already £144 just to start it up. They didn't offer any assistance whatsoever before informing us of the nuclear option. The general property manager, Denise who has worked for Martin and Co for 20 years is defensive and difficult to handle. Very quick to accuse you of being threatening/condescending which I'm sure you can understand, only make people more angry. We're fully expecting them to try to get us on non existent costs from the deposit scheme as revenge for this review. We have nothing left to lose so we want to make sure nobody else suffers as we have. Avoid this agent at all costs. Might be difficult as they seem to have half of Keighley but stick with it.
