Poor, disappointing and over-priced service
I am incredibly disappointed with the service provided by McFarlane. To begin with, I was misquoted the admin fee when looking around the apartment and was subsequently shocked to find that I had to pay an additional £250 as an end of tenancy cleaning fee - which in itself is extortionate considering I had 3 quotes from other local companies quoting me around a third of what McFarlane was charging (and considering my flat is small and uncarpeted, there's no way it would cost £250 to clean it). Secondly, the admin fee that I was quoted at the point of paying was £100 extra than what's advertised on the website. While I sought to rectify both of these issues with the director - which I did (a reduction of £100 on the cleaning fee and the payment of what was quoted on the website for the admin fee) it was already a lot of hassle before anything really happened. There was then the issue of the estate agents having limited information about the property; they didn't know that it came with a garage; the bills system wasn't explained properly (as some are included and others, like electricity, are payable in different ways); I wasn't told who else/how many others lived in the building; upon asking for dimensions of the flat, they failed in giving me any. Finally, when it came to moving in, I was incredibly shocked and disappointed (considering my above comments) to find that the apartment hadn't been properly cleaned; given the amount that was paid for cleaning, I expected it to be pretty much immaculate. Quite the opposite: dusty and sticky surfaces, dusty window ledges, marks left on the hob and oven and the shower wasn't properly cleaned. I was then further disappointed with the response from McFarlane since this was delaying me in my move. A sense of urgency to rectify the situation was lacking and it resulted in what's already known to be an incredibly stressful experience in being even more stressful. A really unpleasant start to the move. To the people who work at McFarlane on a personal level, they all seem pleasant and polite but in a business sense and as service providers, I feel really let down as a tenant and customer. Fingers crossed things improve over the coming months.
