Awful company!! Avoid at all costs!!

Throughout renting, any enquiries that were made were never returned with an answer. The house was not cleaned very well when we moved in, however expected to be returned in a better state (at our expense). There was no check out appointment made, even though we paid for this up front when applying for the property. Going by your other reviews it's no real surprise now that the level of service is not where it is meant to be. Having used another franchise of Martin & Co in a different area, who are without fault, it is clear to me now that the service I received at the Gainsborough Branch is unacceptable. Estate agents think they hold all the power, but its time for tenants to stick up for themselves. Would not recommend unless management has a clear turn around. Guess they rely on the demographic of the area to give substandard service to the most vulnerable in the local community.

Worst experience ever. I'm really suprised this company is still trading. They are half the dailys of the world. They have the worst customer service ever. Rude staff. Wouldn't let me have a house because of my ethnicity and housing benefit. I'd be treated a lot better in Syria then I am through this company so think I'll be going back! Would not use this company again as it was such a traumatic experience and stressful experience for me.

I wondering, how this company still exist. Several times the agents just simply didn`t appear on the appointment, and didn`t realized that it would be polite and professionally to call and rebook a meeting. Also, you never ever receive any callbacks from them to get the required information. Absolutely below poor level of service.

This estate agent can never be bothered to email you back or call you I think the letting side of it is terrible if your a landlord I would recommend using another agent I think a new lettings manager needs appointing! this certainly is not the old Martin and Co I remembered ! Very disappointed

Dear martin & Co Gainsborough. Thank you for crushing my hopes and dreams. Thank you could telling me the house I was viewing doesn't take housing benefit even though over the phone you stated it did. Thanks for making me believe me and my family would finally be able to live in a nice house in a nice area. Thank you for ruining my day. Seriously, If you are a disabled family on housing benefit, DO NOT EVEN BOTHER WITH THESE PEOPLE! ------In reply to owner------ It is ludicrous to say the other prospected tenant is better on paper when you had absolutely ZERO information on me and my family. It was our first time viewing with you and our first time even being in your office. The gentleman who provided the viewing stated that we we're the first to view the house out of a few potential applicants which is exactly the reason we headed straight for the office after viewing. There is no way the landlord could have know anything about us given not 5 minutes after sitting down we we're told to our faces he DOES NOT TAKE HOUSING BENEFIT and now here you state he does. Please stop lying to me. This leads me to believe that the woman who served us either didn't like the look of myself and my family or perhaps is a friend or relative of said other applicant and as such lied to us to insure said friend gets the house. But alas this is just speculation so I'll leave it at that. But either way over the phone I was told yes housing benefit, at the office after viewing I was told no housing benefit and now here in this review I'm once again told yes.. housing benefit... see the problem here?

Hi Ben, Sorry that you haven't been happy with your experience with Martin & Co. The Landlord of this property does accept housing benefit (he rents another house through us with a tenant who has been on housing benefit for the last 6 years) however you were one of several people that viewed this particular property. We had 2 applications for the property come in on the same day and the Landlord chose the other person simply because in his view on paper they were better. We do accept housing benefits and have no issue at all helping people with disabilities. Approx 40% of our let portfolio is on housing benefits. Apologies for your disappointment. If we can help you any further please do get in touch. Kind regards Martin & Co Gainsborough

Disgusted with the fact that you gave our details to 'The Tennant Shop'. Received a call from them and a text from you today after you passed our details on to them. We have not been tennants of yours for 3 years. Very angry.Your company is dreadful as a letting agent!! Reported repairs were never dealt with by you, we had to contact the landlord ourselves when something needed doing. You couldn't organise a party in a brewery.Avoid this lettings agent!

Emailed repeatedly regarding properties to never receive a reply, had viewings arranged to find out via right move that the property had gone (luckily before I drove the 3 hours to view) and had to phone them to confirm it had gone (this has happened more than once) just phoned to enquirer about 4 or 3 bedroom properties which will accept housing benefit to be told straight away have nothing, YET HAVE PLENTY ADVERTISED ON RIGHTMOVE WHICH WILL ACCEPT HOUSING BENEFIT which I emailed about but that would require reading and replying to messages. If I was a landlord I wouldn't be using them.
