Note: Whitegates is managed by Martin & Co. Go check their reviews as well. We moved 300+ miles from Bournemouth to rent a property from Whitegates. Joe, who has now left the business was lovely and our move in was perfect. We paid all our rent up front. However, we started to discover lots of problems with the property after we moved in. The sockets in the kitchen were arcing, tripping the power and there was rising damp in both the kitchen and the lounge. Wallpaper peeling, large holes in the lounge hidden by a large canvas, bath panel came away, chimney leaked water into the bedroom, bits of brick landing on my fiancee's desk among other issues... Whitegates dragged their heels on every repair and then 3.5 months in, decided to tell us we were to be issued with a Section 21 eviction notice (this notice is not like a Section 8, which is for difficult tenants). We were compliant and started looking for properties, but understandably wanted compensation for our move. We will have to move all our belongings again, change all our addresses, change insurance (with fees) etc. We asked for £480 to cover this cost. They refused point blank. Note that the cost of a Section 21 is already £144 just to start it up. They didn't offer any assistance whatsoever before informing us of the nuclear option. The general property manager, Denise who has worked for Martin and Co for 20 years is defensive and difficult to handle. Very quick to accuse you of being threatening/condescending which I'm sure you can understand, only make people more angry. We're fully expecting them to try to get us on non existent costs from the deposit scheme as revenge for this review. We have nothing left to lose so we want to make sure nobody else suffers as we have. Avoid this agent at all costs. Might be difficult as they seem to have half of Keighley but stick with it. Hi Kieran, firstly thank you for the kind comments about Joe , he’s a hard working guy who puts his heart and soul into lettings and following a successful apprenticeship with us has moved on to work for one of our customers. Secondly regarding your current property I am aware that there have been a number of unsatisfactory issues with this property , it is a new property to us and the landlord and unfortunately a number of things have come to light since you moved in that neither us or the landlord were previously aware of. We have been working with you and our contractors as much as possible in the current situation to resolve these issues for you, I am sorry if this has not been quick enough but there are some quite expensive problems to resolve that require quotes. I understand your landlord would prefer to do more extensive repairs with the property empty which is why he has ask you to vacate at the end of your tenancy, We have been looking to help you find a new property and will continue to assist you where ever possible as we appreciate you are a good tenant .

The agency didn't take any action against a landlord who wasn't playing by the books. Half of things in the house should have been throughly assessed but wasn't otherwise the house would have been in a better state. A bad credit score was threatened upon us once we moved and raised complaints and asked for action to be taken. Will never rent a property via this landlord or agency again. Our concerns for our safety weren't taken into consideration even when we did live in the property.

Whitegate fully managed our property and gave us the report that it is in good condition and well looked after by the tenant only to find that the property had been used to grow drugs and it was trashed. Had to spend hundreds to bring it to the level where it could be rented again. Will never recommend them to anyone. They refused to accept any responsibilty.

Unfortunately this was a very sad situation regarding your long term tenants sudden death which no one could have predicted. I relied on Whitegates to find a suitable tenant for my property during 2017. They placed an allegedly verified and checked tenant who paid only one months rent before going into immediate arrears. I subsequently discovered on my own the verified tenant used false details which were never actually checked out. £3k in lost rental income later i finally had the tenants ejected in January of this year. The support from Whitegates was non-existent throughout. I found them to be liars who paint themselves into a corner before shapeshifting through a trapdoor. They take zero responsibility for their actions. Do yourself a favour and stay well clear of this shower unless you fancy sorting out credit applications on your address 10 months after eviction. DM me if you want all the email chains to verify my review. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
