After 12 years of managing several properties for me it is verry dispointing to be threatened with court. I was of the understanding letting agents were there to help and advise. In this case charged for a contractor to visit and report on works to be completed, and said ther contractor needs to undergo the works or they won't sign it off. Works I could have got completed by one of our contractors ended up costing hundreds and faced with cort threats when suggested the works are a 38% higher then ive been quoted. :(

Mr Evans, in response to your review, this is in regards to the new Electrical safety regulations, that came in to force this July. Having taken your instruction to go ahead and arrange for an electrician to do the EICR check, our contract found a fault that needed to be repaired before he could sign off the report. We sent you the quote for the works and you advised us that you wanted your own contractor to do the remedial work, as ours was more expensive, and then have our contractor just sign off the report. Having checked with our contractor we explained that if your own contractor did the remedial work, our contractor would have to go back and check the works done, to then be able to sign this off. They cannot sign off someone else’s work without checking it first. We advised you this would lead to a further charge and really not cost effective for you in light of the cost of the remedial work needed. Despite chasing you on this issue you have not responded and we are now concerned for you and your tenant that you do not hold a valid EICR and therefore in breach of current regulations. We will continue to chase you for the EICR. If your contractor has completed one we do need a copy.

I think 2 starts is beyond fair . The only reason they get this they seem nice people... i won't go into to much detail but i know there's much more going on behind the phone. The simple things of calling back or sticking to any agreement is none existant. Some of the things they've suggested to avoid sending someone out to fix a blocked toilet / pump is a joke. Mop it up ? Theres no really sense of urgency . Surely a sanity issue is fairly important. The shower, toilet and sink all unusable for 3 days... quite unbelievable.

Please stay away from them, especially if you are foreigner. They have discriminated against me!! The man called me to arrange viewing for a flat at Victoria house asked me about me family, I told him I am bringing my family from my home country and I am applying for their visa, he said we can not rent you unless you send a copy of your family members visas😳!!!!!!!. According to Home Office rules; I should provide a rental agreement of a family property to get my application accepted. When I asked the man if this is a rule he got mad and hung up the line on me. He breached the law, and took away from me my right to rent which the government has given to me, what a shame!!! According to his racist rule, I should never get visa for my kids!!! Please stay away from them!! To be fair, the lady receiving the phone calls was nice and respectful. Comment on owner reply, 7/11/2023: Firstly, you are not telling the truth!! The call was not end, they hung up the call on me!! twice, including the second lady replied my second call, she also hung up the call on me.Secondly, the lady I said she was nice, that the lady receiving the calls when people call for the first time. Lastly, how you can check the right to rent of dependants??!! Who have not been here yet?? You have the right to check mine, and that what was supposed to happen. I were not happy and were not look understanding what your employees were saying, I were discussing with them and they hang the call on me!!!!

We are sorry to hear that you felt you had a bad experience with us at Martin & Co. In response to your review we would like to confirm the following took place: Our agent called you to get more information regarding your enquiry of the property. He asked when your partner would be in the UK and if your partner had a Visa so that we may complete Right to Rent checks which is necessary for any applications we take when applicants are moving to this country. This question upset you at the time and, as my colleague was trying to explain the process to you, the phone call was ended. You then returned the call where you spoke to another colleague who you said was nice and respectful to you. She explained again that we need to do Right to Rent checks and explained what this would entail. You seemed to understand this explanation at the time and were happy with her response. As mentioned above it is necessary we carry out these checks before setting up a viewing to ensure we are able to reference you as well as ensuring the property is suitable for you too. Without this information we do not arrange the viewing so that no one’s time is wasted, including yours. We hope after reading this you can understand the process a little better and we would be more than happy to help you find a property in the future as we do for many other people who have or are in similar positions to you.
