Bad beyond my expectation. Late check in even you discussed the date 2 months ago. The flat is not fully cleaned at all when I moved in. Boiler is not working from the first day and they wouldn't come to fix it quickly. lie after lie, charge after charge. I am going to complain to wherever I can. When you try to argue, they told you to shut up. If you don't they say you are not polite either because you are younger so you should respect them, or you come from an impolite country if you are not English.

useless - poor service slow ,they don't seem to know whats going on. should have read the reviews before hand. they charge extortionate fees that dont reflect customer service and cant even get basic paperwork sorted even when given a months notice . no chance of moving in on time. they need to get there act sorted.

most rubbish agency in Nottingham

They won't contact you even if you will be moving tomorrow. Even if you asked them to make the check-in in the morning 2 months in advance, they initially said everything is fine (note they won's say OK) but finally say to you it is they that decide on the date and time, and you 'not to book any removals until we have confirmed your move in date and times'. That's what they told me one working day before my moving. How the hell is it possible for anyone to book a removal service one day before moving! Oh yes, they just don't care coz it's your business.

I don't usually write reviews if I find a company or a service something of a let down, but in this instance I felt I needed to make an exception. I've moved and rented a lot over the years due to work commitments and study previously, and have in the past dealt with very good agents. Martin & Co, Nottingham appeared to be initially and couldn't do enough to arrange my viewing and to help me during the initial paperwork (References and so on). However, once they had my money the experience somewhat changed. Firstly I was moving city and starting a new job so needed to be in the property before a specific date. The property was meant to be ready two weeks prior to the date they eventually let me arrange a check in appointment - I started my job two days later, giving me only a day to move everything 180 miles to the new flat. During those two weeks I had minimal correspondence with Martin & Co despite them telling me they'd keep me informed, and it was only through my own chasing up and what essentially became "nagging" that they responded. Once in the property I had an issue with being billed for the wrong gas meter ( my energy supplier had been informed of the wrong serial number for my gas meter, meaning I was paying for an entire family's gas, as opposed to my own use) I reported this to Martin & Co. who were less than helpful, telling me to sort it out myself as it was nothing to do with them (they set up the energy accounts)! Finally, as I got a job in a different country, I needed to end my tenancy a few months earlier. I have had to do this previously with another agent and understand that in those circumstances the tenant has to pay release fees essentially to cover the landlords advertising of the property. With my previous agency this was a total of £120 (along with continual payment of the rent until new tenants were found). Martin & Co did not forward me any statements regarding this, and even though I had arranged for my tenancy to end on a specific date (email and phone correspondence), when I went in to drop off my keys and pay anything I needed to, I was met with confusion with one person even stating "But you aren't meant to leave until 3 months time". I asked, that, should the property be re-let I be informed as soon as possible as I would wish someone to represent me at check out, I heard nothing at all until I suddenly got an email stating that the check out had been done and I would be required to pay £95 (+VAT) for cleaning costs. I was annoyed as I had thoroughly cleaned the property before vacating, but it is not uncommon for cleaning costs to be taken from a bond. Reluctantly as I was not in a position being out of the country to contest this I agreed, and then learned of the early release costs I was to pay, in addition to the cleaning charge: £108 for the check out report and £300 as an early release payment! Out of a bond of £575 they took £522 leaving me only £53. There was no information about these costs or these charges. They also stated it would be paid directly back to my bank account, not going through the DPS. I don't like to bad mouth services and cant speak for how they treat landlords, but in short, if you want continual support as a tenant and to be treated fairly and avoid unknown and sudden costs, I would recommend avoiding at least this particular branch.

Martin & Co. are the worst estate agents I have ever dealt with. I thought that student letting agents could be bad even the worst student letting agents I dealt with were angelic by comparison. Martin & Co. make promises they have no intention of keeping and often outright lie simply to get you to go away for a bit. During the initial viewing we pointed out that the carpets were dirty (near grey when they are meant to be cream) and the kitchen tap was broken, these were promised to be fixed before moving in. When we moved in, neither had been addressed. After 2 months of repeatedly visiting and calling, the tap was fixed but (another month later) we were told the landlord would not clean the carpets mid tenancy. Every time any work is needing to be done, it has taken far longer than it should have. They have also lost a key to my apartment. It took Martin & Co over a month to admit this, after we asked why they were refusing to use it for managerial visits. Do not let any properties represented by this company. While some of their properties are nice, you will eventually need repair work carried out and they won't. This will at time frustrate you to the point that you will pay your own money for what they should be doing/done. I have been promised that I will be paid back but afterwards Martin & Co deny ever saying this. You will not be able to trust anything they tell you.

Utterly disgraceful agent. Shocking customer service, rude, un-helpful and constant ploy to take money. Left the apartment in a much better condition to how we arrived, yet being charged hundreds. I will never use any Martin and Co agent again.

Incompetent

Martin & Co supplied a meagre service which could be classed as competent, if judged by very low standards. They lack basic communication skills, are unreliable and argumentative. I would recommend FHP Living. Failing that, approach a stranger in the street. They will most likely be more friendly and competent.
