They seem OK, but as a middleman between you and a landlord they seem happy to leave you in the dark regarding works on your building... Even with emergency repairs. So sometimes you have to chase them up to find out what is happening. EDIT: A year on, still waiting for works... one of which has been 6 years in waiting now, the other is a huge crack in the wall that leaks every time it rains. Next to plugs. Never seem to be able to get someone out... but are happy to up the rent for the landlord. Second Edit: We are actually getting people out. Maybe. Perhaps. But at least its something. This does seem to be more an issue with the previous landlord who sold the property as 'in good condition' and the new landlord is now facing a surprise bill for work he didnt expect to need to do. Martins as the middleman are just trying to do their best to be a go between. The staff in Martins are always polite and helpful. If the review was just for them, it's 5 stars. But the process of being a go-between, and not having the info required half the time, its always going to be hard to recommend renting through this type of company

Dear Martyn, the team have been disappointed that promises made by your previous Landlord had not been followed through by them. In the majority of cases we have close relationships with our Landlords who either trust us to arrange for works to be completed or when they promise to complete works that those works are done. You may be surprised to know that we have to work far harder with the former. I suspect it is fairly obvious why the works were not done and why the property was subsequently sold and we are delighted that you now have a new landlord and we are making progress. Hopefully now that we are working with a responsible Landlord we can give you a much better service and maybe, fingers crossed, you will be able to leave us a better review sometime in the future.

The Stoke branch has been looking after properties for me and my partner. They're exceptionally bad at getting contractors for maintenance issues. We've had to chase them up to make sure jobs are done. If they can't find a contractor in 2-3 weeks, they tend to forget the issue. We had one occasion where funds sent in as a deposit for one job were allocated to another job by a different contractor. The staff are pleasant enough to deal with, but it's a poor service. Landlords with fewer than five properties should be wary. For tenants, we suggest you avoid the Stoke branch. No guarantee that they'll sort out maintenance issues in good time.

Dear Mr Simpson unfortunately when people apply for a property and they or their guarantors don’t disclose certain material facts about their personal financial position which later come to light as part of our referencing process it makes it very difficult to process that application. We do not “rip people off” and rarely have need to make any charges to tenants whatsoever and we believe our fees for Vendors and Landlords are amongst the most competitive in the area and offer value for money for the services we provide. We will not process an application where we know it will fail but if we are not given all the facts then legislation allows us to make a charge to cover at least some of our costs.

If you’re thinking of renting from Martin and Co please don’t! Customer service is terrible especially Sue who needs Customer Service Training she is so rude and comes over in a verbally aggressive way. Emma was the exception to the rule very helpful. We had to fight tooth and nail to get our deposit back after 5 1/2 weeks after putting in a formal complaint, the house was left in a cleaner tidier way than when we moved in it was filthy, it was professionally cleaned when we moved out yet Martin and Co’s EXTERNAL end of tenancy contractors went in as if it was a Forensic Crime-scene zooming in on minuscule grouting that was wear and tear and other ridiculous details in an attempt to knock money off our deposit, we were not allowed to meet them at check out which it states in our contract we should have been allowed to. They informed us of date and time of 6 monthly house inspections instead of ringing to arrange them then, they get rude on the phone when having to rearrange due to work commitments. They never follow up on repairs that have never been done they just don’t care. We have rented from two Estate Agents before Martin and Co and got our deposits back within a week. Our Landlord is now selling the property and is selling it with another Estate Agent says it really.

Glass door in the kitchen was getting stuck every time i try shut it. I have been chasing that since i bought this house and barely mind this was brand new house. No support was given and in return after 2 years they responded with the reasoning that hinges has 12 month warranty hence why i have to pay but the funny thing i have been asking them to fix it when it was in warranty and no one was able to respond to care to know whats happening. Second thing my pipe burst in the toilet upstairs and no help there so i have to pay even manager from the site told me you have 10 years warranty but clearly Martin & Co don’t seems to care. I have 5 other problems which i can mention and this is brand new house we are talking. Last but not least unprofessional staff in Martin & Co who thinks that they can just speak but not gonna let any other person to talk.

I am currently leasing a property with this company, and I have faced some challenges. As someone who works in customer service, I understand the importance of providing attentive care to clients. Unfortunately, I feel that this is an area where the company falls short.

Horrible experience with them since they have took over the building that I was staying in. After I moved out I have been told that everything was okay and someone else has already moved in to our apartment. 3 months later I have received a bill to pay for cleaning after leaving the apartment unclean. (I left the apartment clean) considering I was there for 2 years and 8 months. On the report they pick out every single detail, and making it sounding much worse than it actually was. (i.e. finger marked window, dusty doors and radiators, moulded bathroom but it was only black spots on the silicone in the corners which is normal, etc..) It was never going to be brand new after nearly 3 years. They do not care about tenants at all.

I had a horrible experience with this company from day one when I was told my offer would never be accepted and was very rudely spoken to. Luckily for me, I was able to get in contact with the second agency who owned the original listing. Even a simple congratulatory card or message was too much for them on the day I picked up my keys.

Not communicating. Standing on landlord said always, so whatever landlord saying they do. They do not care about tenants. I terminated the contract because of moving country and relocation from work. I informed them 2 months before. Fist they said that I need to find someone on my place so I did than they started to take money. I paid fee 350£, rent until 3rd September when I moved out on 21st of August. They ask me "because of la dlord said" to pay rent until 16th even if I found for them new tenant. After deduction from deposit they sent gardener without informing me and charge 110£ more for that because of landlord wanted. Do not trust in any word they saying. I thought is good agency but unfortunately same as every.
