I've had a previous good experience with this estate agent when buying my property, which is why I chose them, but that was a few years ago and the staff have changed. Now, when selling my property, I had to deal with a rude, unhelpful, bullying and condescending person who gave the distinct impression that she was working for the buyer, not me.. My house is sold now but if I had any other need for an estate agent then it would not be with this one.

My experience with Northwood agency has unfortunately not been conclusive. I have contacted this agency for a 2 bedroom flat as although single, I would like to foster children in the future which is why I went for a 2 bedroom . The first contact was fine, bubbly actually so it was positive to start with . The maisonette looks good, very central as well so I went for it although specified that foster agents will be asking for a written confirmation from the landlord. A day or 2 later, Jennifer emails me to let me know that the landlady is happy for me to foster children within her property and that her email should be counted as proof. Following this email I called her letting her know that It wasn't that easy given that social workers can be very fussy when It comes to documents, and were very likely to ask me for a confirmation written by the landlord herself. This information triggered a heavy breath from her indicating me that she was annoyed by this information. Again , a day or 2 later , I receive another email saying that the landlady is on holiday until the end of the month therefore she will not take the time to write and sign a letter, and that If I wasn't happy with it, to back out of the deal; which would mean they would not refund me leaving me with hundred of pounds lost because they took the time to check references but insisted they will not bother the landlord asking for that letter which once again, is required for social workers to consider that property to be suitable for fostering. I said that they needed to understand that since I am paying 6 months in advance and committing for at least a year, It was an important investment to me and needed that guarantee as a result which Catrina replied. "People pay 6 months in advance all the time in York" This is nothing new to us"... A very unprofessional response indeed, and completely missing the point. Positive to start with , but went quickly downhill as soon as I have paid the hundreds of pounds to hold the property. also their tone is quiet rude /condescending to be frank . I have chosen to go ahead since the owner of the agency said she will keep my money if I back out although will definitely vacate the property as soon as the contract allow it which is in a year . Should have done more research on this agency before contacting them . won't be using again once out of the contract. From what I can see, they will treat you very well if you are a Landlord since they didn't dare contact her while on holiday. But if you are a tenant, be prepared to face a condescending team if things go wrong instead of them doing their best . In the contrary , they will actually escalate the situation. Overall experience not conclusive therefore I do not recommend. This review is from a tenant point of view.

The worst and most unprofessional company me and my wife have had the misfortune to deal with. They lied and tried to manipulate us so we decided to walk away from them as a business. It was a very unpleasant experience My friend also tried to rent a property with them and was discriminated against for being on disability benefits despite being able to provide months of rent up front Please avoid this business and hope it's toxic and predatory business practices stop plaguing York's high-street

A big selling point in relation to the property which was majorly advertised on Rightmove, Zoopla and the Northwood website etc is that the property had a state of the art sound system built in to each room of the house which we very much liked the idea of. Unbeknown to us and something were not made aware that this sound system did not work! We later got a quote which stated hundreds of pounds to get fixed which is a huge inconvenience when just moving house with costs etc. Also, on the day of moving, we had to sit outside the property for around 4 hours passed the time Northwood advised they would hand over the keys, in the street, in a van. Northwood also made me travel to York to collect as they would not drop these keys off to our new house as they claimed being short staffed on a Friday. The sale of the property was not so bad, but if you purchase a property from these guys, be sure to check everything out first. I have contacted them since in regards to the sound system and a blunt text back stated there was nothing they could do. No customer after care unfortunately.
