I don't care for your response so do me the courtesy please of leaving my review alone, I will delete and repost otherwise. I bear you no malice, you were a reasonable team and good with me but 3 stars isn't to be seen as a bad thing or something to be concerned over. But please kindly respect what I'm asking, and take comfort and trust in these words. But please I kindly ask you leave my review alone I will delete and repost otherwise.

Helpful initially with quick turnaround and getting us in. Overcharged us for leaving the flat in a cleaner condition than it was found, charged £75 to fit 3 lightbulbs... Only responded to requests for things to be fixed if they immediately could have cause significant harm but made year long excuses as to why other tasks didn't get done throughout the whole tenancy and still weren't completed on us moving out. Also re-rented a fine but significantly ageing property at a ridiculously inflated price from £925pcm in 2021 to £1200pcm in 2022 having no updating work done on it. Better experience with these than Hunter's though!

Lucienne, thanks for your comments. I hope the move to your new home went well and you are all settled in. I'm sorry you feel frustrated at the check out process. It in no way benefits us to find things we have to charge a tenant for its just extra work but something that is part of our job we'd far rather find no issues that we had to deal with. It would have cost you less than £75 to change the bulbs but we have to send a contractor to do it. Pleased to see you thought we did a good job for our landlord when we re-let it, we had a few applications as well. Thanks again, Chris

Northwood in York looked after the renting of our property for a few years, and subsequently the sale of the house. In general we were very unhappy with the service they offered - frequently having to chase them up for information, waiting ages for people getting back to us and missing out on basic things you would expect a competent property management company to do. Not recommended.

I don’t write reviews normally but feel I need to this company is terrible my friend lived in her property for 17 years with no issues but because this company is greedy and wanted £200 more a month my friend is living in a half way house so don’t think they are for there tenants I don’t think they care they are greedy

Kim, thanks for letting us know your views. You'll appreciate that I'm limited in what I can say. What I can say is that there are two sides to every story, the rent increase was less than £200, the new rent was still £200 or so below market value and there hadn't been a rent increase for well over 3 years. There is also an established process to appeal unfair rent increases through a rent tribunal which wasn't taken up. I think you might be surprised how hard we work to look after our client's interests and also be fair to our tenants. If you'd like to speak to me feel free get in touch. Kind regards, Chris

Worst experience of an agency we have ever had. We wrote a very detailed review here of Northwood initially but it was, conveniently for them, removed. Avoid this shambles of an agency at all costs - unhelpful and unprofessional at all levels.

Reply from agent

Matthew, thanks for this Firstly, if your review was removed it had nothing to do with us. We have not and wouldn't remove reviews, transparency is too important. It is impossible in what we do to keep everyone happy all of the time though, we do put a lot of effort into doing so. To pretend that everyone is happy, all of the time would be false advertising but we stand by our professionalism, the quality of our service to our landlords and our very keen desire to look after our tenants as best we can. Thanks for reviewing us again and I wish you all the best for the future. Chris

Aweful customer service, harrassed for rent every month, even though it was paid on time, took advantage of us

Reply from agent

Thanks for your review. I'm sorry if you feel a reminder email sent on the day your rent is due, if it hadn't arrived by that point, was harassment. Many tenants set up a standing order and it arrives on the day its due, others do it by a bank transfer and are often very grateful for the reminder. If there is a reason why the rent might be late, its important we know because the sooner we do, the easier it is to manage the situation for both the landlord's and tenant's benefit. I am sorry though, that you felt it was harassment, that would be the last thing we wanted to do so I'm sorry if it felt that way. I'm not sure how we took advantage of you but I'm happy to look into it if you contact me at chrisray@nortwhooduk.com or at 01904 638999. I wish you all the best for the future. Kind regards, Chris

Absolute shambles of an estate agents. We were left homeless for 2 weeks because of their incompetence. We finally moved in and the estate agents said there will be no items left in the property. My advice to anyone purchasing with these liars. Do a final check of the property check all the appliances work because we also found out that the oven and hob doesn’t work. So not only was the house a right state, the appliances were broken. I never complain but when somebody takes you for a mug like this it’s hard not to. soon as they get your money they couldn’t give a toss. 0/10NegativeQuality, Professionalism, Value

Billy, thanks for your review. Sorry for the delay in replying on here, I'll reply in the same was as I did to your comment on facebook: As you well know, the reason the completion couldn't happen when planned as the mortgage lender of the deceased who owned the property took far more than the three days as they promised to get the redemption figure out to the sellers solicitor. Nothing we, the solicitors or anyone else could do about that except the lender, who were probably impacted by the rush of completions at the end of the stamp duty holiday. Of course as you said to me on the 22nd of June, you had no plans to tie the purchase into your sale, it was just opportune. Of course you could have exchanged and completed much earlier but for your initial delays in getting the ball rolling after the sale was agreed and then the delay in giving your solicitor some information at the beginning of June so that she could exchange and complete. The sellers allowed you to move your property into the house to help with the situation though I fully appreciate you were still at some inconvenience. The property had been vacant for 2 plus years and we had not contact with the owner whose family live in Ireland so had never visited it so no one was able to tells us about the appliances besides which no agent would ever provide a warranty on appliances and you had every opportunity over the 6 plus months the sale took to check them yourself or have them checked. I still appreciate the inconvenience of finding that they didn't work. A contractor was arranged to remove items of furniture from the property before exchange of contracts. He did so but didn't remove the washing machine as he was going to need to remove the work surface to do so so felt it was fitted and left it. I wasn't aware of the bags of the rubbish in the yard as hadn't notice them on my last visit there. The property has been empty beyond the odd check to make sure it was secure so I had no reason to think any rubbish would have appeared. As I said yesterday though, I am more than happy to arrange for someone to come and collect it but as yet you have not taken me up on that offer. The access to store your furniture before exchange of contracts gave you an opportunity to see it before the delayed exchange and completion and that was on top of the arrangement agreed between solicitors that you would have the opportunity to inspect it before exchange took place. You didn't take that option up on the day you were initially supposed to exchange but the access to store your furniture gave you another chance. I appreciate your frustration at how things ended and the unexpected delay but you have never been 'lied' to, maybe you'd consider withdrawing that part of your review when things have settled down. I remain willing to arrange for someone to collect the rubbish. All the best for the future, Chris.

What an awful experience it was renting a property through Northwood York...We moved into a house that was filthy - we had to clean the house from top to bottom including having the carpets cleaned as the place was in such a state - we had to have the oven professionally cleaned when we moved in as it was so disgusting. The washing machine was extremely unhygienic - I've never seen so much black mould in my life -we actually had to buy a new one as the landlord had 'kindly' gifted it to us - basically we had the responsibility to get rid of it. The property was furnished and the blind covering the lounge window was broken so that it couldnt be pulled up (again our complaint fell on deaf ears) so we spent the six long months there with a dark and dingy lounge. The property was advertised as having a driveway but this was not true - no drop kerb and if we were to park off road it meant using the neighbours dropped kerb and driving across their property. When we brought this up at the agency, we were simply told there is in fact no driveway with the property so it was mis advertised. What is really unbelievable is when the property was re advertised after we had moved out, it was again advertised as having a driveway! Complaining to the agency were useless - although I understand it's the landlord's decision whether to address the problems, I wonder whether that's just the kind of landlords they have on their books. Having not rented for a while, it was a real eye opener - I'm sure this standard of property and service is not a one off in York...it's shocking that landlords can get away with renting such below standard properties and that agencies like Northwood York seem happy enough to represent them.

Victoria, thankyou for your review and I'm sorry you had an unpleasant experience renting through us. I arrived shortly after you left the property (just days actually) in February last year and it is no longer rented through us. We endeavour to make sure that properties are clean before we rent them out and tenants are expected to leave them in the condition they received them-cleaned to a professional standard. While Sandcroft Road appear to have been a more dated property the images you have shared show it was not in the condition that we would want one of our properties to be. I believe that you didn't have the opportunity of seeing the property yourself before you moved in which may not have helped the situation. I have seen the email you sent complaining about the situation and the reply was in my view less than satisfactory. As you say we can't force a landlord to do work of this nature to a property but I think there was maybe more that we could have done to assist. I'd be interested to know what lead you to raise this so long after leaving the property but appreciated the intervening months have been slightly 'distracting'. I would like to make some amends for the experience you had so would like to offer £150 towards the cost of getting the carpets and oven cleaned. It's in recognition of the fact that the way you found things was less than ideal and our response was not everything it could have been. Please email me at chrisray@northwooduk.com or call on 01904 638999 so we can work out where to send a payment to and if you wish to discuss the matter further. Thanks again for bringing it to our attention and I can assure you that this not a typical experience of renting though Northwood in York and I will continue to work hard to make sure it doesn't hap[pen on my watch. Regardless of how long things have taken at my end or your end. How can you explain the house been in such a mess, you said it would be emptied of all belongings. 10 bin bags later, disgusting free standing washing machine that We didn’t need or want. Tins of paint, and fitted appliances that don’t work when they should work as I purchased the house with working fitted appliances. It’s morally wrong todo that to someone. Your company obviously doesn’t care and now that you have your sales commission you don’t care just saving face with this horrendous review I’ve given you. I was lied to by you and my own solicitor but I will not be using you or the solicitor I used that was recommended to us again. Honesty is the best policy and I suggest in your line if work you take this on board Chris. I may ad I’ve never written a bad review in my life because I just aren’t that kind of person but this company has infuriated me that much. Do the right thing and return to the address and make the appliances work again as they should because the house was sold with a working hob and cooker otherwise you should of stated they did not work. If you didn’t know, then it shows you can’t do your job properly because you should surely ask the people selling the property if the cooker and hob work? Or at least check them.
