I just wanted to give in Minus. My husband booked a appointment 1.30 and reached by 1.17.The lady reached 1.45 just gave a missed call while my hubby froze near the gate she without checking left.Such a liar am sure she never came or needs a brushup in how to deal with clients. Complaining about them to there seniors wont help all clueless and sail the same boat.Just gonna make sure no one ever is troubled by there worthless service.Seriously please shut down nd relax at home if you cant do business.
Dealing with Martin & Co is completely fine. They are professional, courteous and generally nice people. The problem arises because they act as a middle man between client and landlord, you don't even get the landlord's phone number, which is understandable. I viewed a property which looked fairly smart. When I moved in however, the landlord had touched up various bits of paintwork which is an entirely different shade to the original and now looks very patchy. There was also a throw covering a giant hole in one of the couches, the other couch was fairly worn and the springs had gone meaning sitting on it was massively uncomfortable. Yet they delivered only one sofa which, again, was a completely different shade to the other sofa. It looks completely ridiculous. The landlord is quite possibly the tightest alive. If there was a bit of give and take I would of painted the property properly, but investing my own money and effort into a "furnished" property when you are delivered a couch a completely different colour to the other is simply overkill. I've given up complaining and simply going to see out my tenancy. Although this is not Martin & Co's fault directly, because of the way they are set up they simply MUST shoulder some of the blame. I cannot wait to move out and I've only been a tenant for 3 weeks. I think it's hit and miss depending on which landlord you get and your willingness to be on the phone constantly to complain and argue your point. I would like to reiterate that they do try and help you out wherever they can and the problems do lie with the landlord.
With the exception of the owner, the majority of the team in the Leeds branch are either on the job learning, reactive instead of proactive, or lack any sense of commercial acumen (based on my six years experience of them letting our flat). Just seem to go through the motions without offering much value - after six years of dealing with sheer incompetence / laziness at times we had had enough and there are far better agents out there that offer a higher quality service at a much lower fee. Would avoid like the plague.
I want to share my exit experience with Martin and co. My tenancy agreement came to an end so by mistake I paid my full month rent of 625 in advance. I have called their office two times and they said the concerned is not available and will be available in sometime and will arrange a call back which I never received. I have personally messaged the concerned person and call him too never got a call back till now. Please be aware there tone and customer experience changes it was different when you give them money and it is different when you leave the property.
Renting with Martin and Co Leeds City centre was a truly horrible experience. No clue about some of these other five star statements here but none of this is just tiny bit true in our case. Let's go. Properties in good state? We moved into Leeds Brewery Wharf. The floor was incredibly dirty on move in. We had a grave water leak for weeks directly at the start which was not fixed for an entire 6 weeks and destroyed the wooden floor from underneath. We reported it only hrs after first occurence. The contractor told us he was there many times for the water leak already (could be seen from the wet walls also). At the same time, on move in, there was an electric cable hanging from a wall. There were moths. There was unbelievable mold build up in the bathtub. ( see pictures, for dirt, mold and cable hanging around proof and others on move in. *These are all pictures registered in move in report also*). Plus broken window handle, and moldy wooden window frame, plus broken letter box on move in. AND due to the water leak in the wall, which was ultimately due to a broken pipe, one of our two bathroom toilets could not be used for months. Even long after the leak was fixed. After three months I demanded rent reduction, because we paid a lot for a TWO bathroom flat and for a long time we had only one bathroom basically. Never was anything done about that. I think the toilet was fixed after 3-4 months. But no apology, no concession. Nothing. Can you believe how much it was? It Again proof via pictures below. Fast forward, we left the flat in a good clean state. Of course they want £270 from our £1148 deposit for cleaning. This is just so so outrageous given how they gave it to us and treated us over the rental period. We use deposit protection service but actually it is just deposit protection for them. We left the UK for good but are required after months of forth and back and declining their money request I am required to go to a lawyer myself for signature and stamp. So pay expensive money to someone just to get my money back. Martin and Co well know this. This is why they exploit it. The system is set up against tenants and it is not deposit protection but just deposit withholding. Cannot believe how unbelievably rigged this whole procedure is. And again Martin and Co shamelessly exploit you as tenant as much as they can. If you can try to avoid them and DPS. (so to be clear i never agreed and would have never to their demands, as they were all completely fabricated and outright unfair given the shitty service and cleanliness they provided themselves but there was no other way than giving them the money or go through statutory declaration, which in my current life circumstances is not worth it or possible. Talana Nieuwstad was the processing agent who refused to even negotiate with us.). I could also attach lots of email proof and loggin theses issues in official system. Which I might do if they get back here with some annoying pseudo professional counter statement. EDIT: As expected some bs answer on the DPS scheme. Of course do not beleive them. I have refused the £270 very clearly and I attach my full email proof response. Here is my email response to them and I do have the full email records as well as the rejection records on the DPS: "What you state is not true and you likely know it. I DID refuse the £270 very clearly in the beginning. See the email proof attached where i clearly informed your colleague Tatiana Nieuwstad that we do not accept this. I also DID reject on the DPS. Nothing happened. You and your company refused to negotiate. No one got in touch. I DID claim back the full amount. Only to find out that in order to this I have to have a signature by a solicitor in the attached statuary declaration. So why do give false info about this? I was and am not willing to cover any costs for cleaning that you charged." "char limit exceeded"...
Acted in bad faith at the end of the tenancy, raised outrageous charges against me which were withdrawn instantly when challenged, and refused to explain the reason for the charges despite multiple requests to do so.
I’m writing this review as a complaint against one of your agents, Reece, not on behalf of myself. He has been incredibly unprofessional over social media with my friends, asking them to meet up for drinks as a thank you for securing them a flat, I doubt this is the first time this has happened either. We find this unprofessional and harassing, especially considering he knows their addresses. I hope this can be dealt with professionally and does not continue
I’m currently renting a flat from this agency but the flat was so many faults and very dirty mouldy. They would take ages to acknowledge on the issues report. Also they haven’t given enough information that you need to know about the flat and anything. Won’t say this is the worst but not good either. This is my first time for renting but my boyfriend family can give me more information about things than this agency itself.
