Communication is really terrible as I sent an email for a move out date and they charged me for an extra month replying that they haven't saw my email because of the pandemic and I should have did a follow up call eventhough they had a proof that I sent my email one calendar month before my move out date. I honestly had bad expierence renting with them.
As a landlord please avoid, first tenant sporadic pay then second tenant stopped paying. I went round noticed bed set up in living room neighbours telling me various people coming and going found out she was sub letting, so Martin and co did not do the vetting correctly or the periodic checks on the house. Bad tenant finally left Martin and co kept the deposit as David knocked on the door twice so deposit was to cover this. Complete con artists tbh avoid. I can only assume some of the tenants behaviour has rubbed off on David as he is as big a con artist as the tenants they provide.
My experience with Martin @ co has not been a good one
This is a review of the 2 people at the top of their Derby centre office: the director and the proprietor. Everyone else there -wholesome people. 1. Boiler needed reviewing. They sent the technician to just walk in my housemate's room (that's where the boiler is). I happen to catch the technician as he was entering. He explains. After checking with my housemate, I tell him nobody told us anything. He calls the director and immediately you could tell this person thinks he's better than us. Eventually, he's just blaring 'I don't need anyone's permission...just get in there.' The tech tells him about the obstacle and the big man decides to strut over himself to show who's 'in charge,' I imagine. He comes down beating his chest and looking down. After a few exchanges, the obvious is he clearly has no idea of human rights, privacy, decency, professionalism, to say nothing of his arrogance and disrespect. ‘It’s a legal requirement. I don’t need your permission. I only have to give notice’ he goes in the end. Poor thing didn’t realise he put his foot in his mouth because I obviously follow with ‘well, give us notice, then,’ and just looked at him. Oh, he lost it. You could almost see his ego exploding and his face just reddening, steaming and just losing control of itself. To top up my inner laughter but also his own lowliness, he throws over his shoulder from a safe distance ‘this is none of your business.’ Do you guys understand why people like him get like that? Because we f-ing let them! 2. Suddenly, I needed to get out fast – covid times and I found out my housemate was taking no precautions; he was seeing people from all over on a regular basis. The director himself shows me some rooms. I know I was in a pinch, but none of these places were decent enough. Take covid test, move with partner for a while, keep looking. But apparently, that didn't sit well with our good director, cause we were having a phone conversation about it and he clearly believed he was doing me personal favours by doing his job properly, so I tell him that and he f-s me off and hangs up. 3. I bring the previous matter through their complains system. Turns out, the head honcho, says that I by me protecting privacy and demanding respect I was 'blocking and interfering' during the boiler incident and that I'm lying about being f-ed off, treated unprofessionally, disrespectfully and frankly uncautiously, too - what if I had been a vulnerable person, to say nothing of the fact they should have been understanding about my increased risk of getting covid from living with a lunatic. She told me 'I suggest you channel your energy into finding alternative accommodation... I will not be responding to you again on this matter.' also 'Please continue your tenancy in a 'tenant like manner' until you vacate.' Therefore, me complaining about their lowly, unprofessional, entitled, pompous behaviour is 'untenantly', ladies and gentlemen. So, according to their complaints policy if I want to take the matter further I have to contact the proprietor. Guess who she was? Indeed, the person who just called me a liar and told me I should go somewhere else. What do you guys think?
UPDATE: What a surprise - a response suggesting my experience is bogus. Perhaps I didn't want my house purchase being affected in spite for providing my feedback? I was actually checking in to perhaps delete my review thinking that my original feedback may have been taken on board and was no longer necessary at the top of your reviews... ORIGINAL REVIEW: If you'd like to be insulted or horrendously pressured into a sale, speak to Chris from Martin & Co. If the insults don't work, he'll start threatening dates of sale cancellation. Naturally, speaking directly to the seller confirms that he's making these dates up. I strongly recommend avoiding this agency at the current time. Disappointed.
Edit: Thank you Martin and Co for your sarcastic response below, and for proving my point on your unprofessionalism on a public platform for prospective tenants and landlords to see. Not once did you explain to me how DPS works (I never asked, plus that would involve you answering the phone or replying to an email), in any case your advice would have been useless considering you clearly do not know how to use the process yourself. My advice to you in the future would be that you actually submit evidence to the DPS for your fictitious claims, even if it is made up. Worst experience I have ever had with a lettings agents. Very helpful and responsive when enquiring about a property but once the tenancy agreement was signed this completely stopped. Extremely difficult to get an answer from anyone, emails constantly went unanswered and calls never returned when I was told they would be. It appears only David the director was capable of answering questions and even then he was rude and unhelpful. They made a false claim on my deposit for a stained mattress, which I have since successfully disputed with evidence. David was very patronising and unprofessional when trying to discuss the dispute over the phone; from this point I gave up attempting any communication with them and used the Deposit Protection Service instead. After 4 months of dispute via the DPS, Martin and Co couldn’t even be bothered to submit their “evidence” to support their claim. Complete waste of time and dreadful, unprofessional service.NegativeResponsiveness, Quality, Professionalism, Value
One word - Unprofessional. Unfortunately I had to deal with the managers of the Derby branch after having numerous issues with the incompetent staff at their Coalville branch. Both managers were extremely unpleasant, aloof, unwilling to sort issues with professionalism, very low standard, poor communication. In May 2021 I formally complained and removed all my properties from their rental management service. They are the worst estate agents I had to deal with.
Very bad
Be honest and don't try to get tenants to pay more than is right
Derby Martin & Co, what an absolute joke of a company! Avoid this estate agents at all costs! We moved into a property in October and have had to call them numerous times to report problems, which they have done absolutely nothing about, they never call back! From giving the keys to workmen to let themselves in to flooding in the basement, right next to the electric board, which could of set the house on fire with me and my children in! We’ve had nothing but problems, would not recommend! Do not waste your time or money!!!
