Appalling customer service. You'll probably do better with any other agent in Derby. I was a tenant at one of their houses. From the very beginning, it's been an awful experience. It was a late start to the initial house visit because the agent didn't bring the right keys with him. He couldn't answer questions regarding the house nor the contract. When I went to their office to sign the contract, they weren't fully prepared with all the documents. There were also so many hidden expenses which was frustrating. Luckily, I had a fantastic landlord, whom I dealt with directly for the next few months. Finally, when it came to moving houses, it took Martin & Co nearly three months to get my deposit back to me! I had to keep calling them to remind them about it, as it didn't feel like it was a priority to them. A shocking experience! They came across as very lackadaisical and unprofessional. I have dealt with a number of agents in the past. Martin & Co were undoubtedly the worst in terms of customer service!

Hello Vipin I have looked into your comments and note that you were in a joint and severally liable tenancy agreement, and you wished to be released from the tenancy. We undertook this on your behalf, and a new tenant was signed up in your place. The deposit was registered under four tenants, and had to be recovered, re-registered and the remainder forwarded to you. You mention hidden expenses, however our fees and charges to tenants are clearly listed on our website, and you would have been advised of them when you initially made your application. It is unfortunate that you feel let down by Martin&Co, however we responded to your request and you received your deposit back in full.

left the property early, paid full re-letting fee even though it was only three months to the end of my contract. only to find out that they have listed the property in the market as available at the date that my actual tenancy runs out rather than "available Immediately", so that they can charge the landlord full re-letting fee in three months. I called them to see why they have done that and they changed the dates immediately to "available now" and outright denied such thing has happened.

Hello Mr Mohseni you chose to vacate the property whilst still in a fixed term tenancy. You have paid a fee for Martin& to re-market the property on your behalf in the hope of finding a tenant to replace you. We have conducted viewings but have not yet received an application. I understand your difficulty, however you are in contract and are required to pay the rent until the contract ceases, or until we can find another tenant. We continue to actively market the property's availability, however you will need to continue to pay your rent to avoid court action. Your current rent remains outstanding. If you wish to discuss this in person we are happy to do so. Please contact our office for an appointment on 01332 650068.

Given a 1 as zero isn't an option.aksed specifically to view pet friendly property's found one and paid deposit to be told sorry no pets ?! Have emailed twice in relation to time frame for my refund to be told the financial director is doing it. So obtained her email and no response at all . Will be taking this further unless I hear back soon !

We apologise for the confusion here. Unfortunately whilst the Landlord does 'consider' pets, he declined in this instance as is his prerogative. The application fee was paid by card so took a few days to clear in our account and a refund is now on it's way to you. If you have any other questions don't hesitate to get in touch with us at the office.

LANDLORDS AVOID AT ALL COSTS , these clowns are an utter disgrace to this industry, managed by Ronald McDonald aka David McKnight they have supposedly managed my house for the last 2yrs. You get the usual bull with this lot, phone calls not returned, inspection reports not sent out etc etc but for no extra cost you will have your house returned in a filthy state not fit for human habitation, however Mr McKnight attempted to advertise and re let the property without my knowledge, I was informed by neighbours and the tenant that they were leaving and To Let signs had been placed at the front of the property The final inspection was attended by the man himself, now the tenants had made feeble attempts to make repairs including a splash of paint to cover water damaged ceilings, glueing the towel rail to the wall as it had been pulled off, the house itself reeked of I don't know what, carpets were vile, radiator covers all missing I presume damaged and 16 of the 23 lights had no bulbs and this pillock was prepared to put another family in the house in that state!!. During this final inspection I voiced my concerns to McKnight regarding the state of my house and why nothing was pulled up in the inspections they supposedly did, he hit this out of the ball park ...... I was told that they don't actually look at the property they look for marijuana!! I can only assume he is addicted to the stuff and it's affected his state of mind!! As far as I'm aware the monthly fee was paid as a management fee not for drug searches I'm sure the police do those for free My house was returned to me in a disgusting state by the tenants and the 'management' company Martin and Co,over Christmas it cost me and my young family countless hours and over £1500 to put the house back in order. The only positive to come out of this is that David McKnight didn't get the chance to Let that property again As I have to give one one star it goes to Deanna in the office who was always polite and helpful

Complete and utter joke of a letting agent. My Mrs and I moved into a shared house on Kingsway, that was managed by Martin & Co. Upon viewing the property we were told by the agent that we would have our own private garden, that would be fenced off and that the driveway, which looked like The Somme, would be fully tarmacked. This never happened, we never had our private garden nor was the driveway tarmacked. We had a variety of issues whilst being at the said property and despite numerous reports on the app, nothing was done about it. I tried on several occasions to organise a meeting with the director of the company, David McKnight, but he never got back to me, despite numerous phone calls and emails. One of the most pressing issues was that we went for one whole month without hot water in the Summer of 2016, again this was reported numerous times and it was only when I went to the office in person to tell them I would withhold the rent ( We paid £510 per month with all bills included) that this was sorted out. My Mrs fell pregnant and we had an issue in the house with one of our housemate's boyfriend who was confrontational and caused a massive issue in the harmony of the household. He threatened and became violent towards our housemate, which caused stress and panic to my pregnant wife, so much so, that we had to call an ambulance out for her. When both myself and our housemate, reported this to Martin & Co, who are supposed to be managing the property, the did not respond at all. This was the final straw as far as I was concerned. When we eventually moved out of the property, it took us over 6 months to get our deposit back because Martin & Co argued that we left the property in a disgusting state and it required cleaning. However, I had photographic and video evidence of the room on the day we moved out and sent this to The DPS, who got back to me today, informing me that my deposit will be repaid into my account in full. According to the DPS, Martin & Co did not send any evidence as to why they withheld my deposit. They tried to withhold the deposit without evidence, which in my book, equates to robbery. Martin & Co in Derby are the most unprofessional and unreliable letting agents I have ever had the displeasure of coming across. They will promise many things but deliver nothing and when you call them out in these things, they accuse you of lying, despite the fact that all the emails they sent me were saved and I showed these to them as evidence. They are an absolute disgrace and I can't understand how they are still allowed to operate. My advice to anyone looking at letting in Derby is to avoid this letting agent like the plague. I only rated this 1 star because it is not possible for me to rate it a minus star. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

Dear Jake Rhodes, We spoke on the phone and you explained you made a one star review in error, and it should have been a five star review. If this is still the case would you mind removing the one star review for Martin&Co as we would hate for this accident to affect our ratings. Many thanks, The Martin&Co Team
