As much as the people you deal with are professional and polite. They will just avoid dealing with expensive and serious problems in rental properties. We were permitted to exit our tenancy early due to the mould within the property. Which we had been complaining about for months, they still do not admit to there being a damp problem despite letting us out the tenancy early due to it. Just telling us it’s condensation, despite us having a tumble dryer, heating being on 24/7, windows always open and wiping the walls every other day. More than likely it has just been painted over and the new tenants who are in now will get a horrible surprise in about two weeks when the walls start to grow fur. We were also expected to just accept that the flat had a mysterious sewage flood and carry on paying rent with no real assurance that anything would be done to prevent it happening again. Now we are moving out they are trying to charge us close to half the deposit for problems within the flat that we had either reported or they had noted during the property inspections. Currently in the process of reporting to both Brighton City Council, Redress, Shelter and the TDS. Also seeking legal council to claim back all the financial loss we’ve suffered due to the hazardous waste and mould that ruined about half our possessions.
Recently rented a flat through Sawyer which became our worst renting experience in a decade. The agency and the landlord withheld important information (detrimental to health) about the property in order to let it out. Our communication with the agency was poor from start to finish, and we frequently didn't hear back from emails or have calls answered. In our experience this agency provides shocking support to tenants while protecting the landlord. This rental experience resulted in a huge loss of money, stress and loss of income due to having to move out of the property & find a decent agency to rent with again. This experience was heightened by the total lack of care and reassurance from the Hove lettings team. We really wouldn't recommend renting from them, even if everything looks good on paper.
Bought our home from this agent. In our experience they were unhelpful and unprofessional. Would not use them again. To top everything off they had the keys to our new home the day before we moved (without us knowing) and deliberately requested we wait for them to call us after completion. We waited a further 2 hours after we completed ( almost closing time) and still had not heard from them and chased in order to get keys to a property we had been in ownership of for a number of hours.

Literally called this place 15 times as I'm due to move on the 3rd November. Ive paid a holding deposit and completed the reference process yet Grace and her colleague cannot be bothered to get in touch and confirm that everything has been completed. I'm getting calls from utilities to set everything up when I don't know what's going on. Even the referral company are disgusted by the way we are being treated. You actually expect us to pay you for your *lack of* services?! This company literally confirms the stereotypes around estate agents... Edit* On moving day, they gave us the wrong keys, this lot couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery 😂
Very difficult to get a hold of on the phone or via email. They took months to fix a broken door lock, meaning we were not safe and our insurance was invalid for a very long time. When you can reach them, they constantly offer call backs that they never deliver, so it's impossible to have a professional conversation. Promised action on so many things that were never resolved, include a serious leak from the above flat which led to damage to our property. Like a lot of agents, they only care about taking your money when you move in. After that, they wipe their hands of any serious responsibility. Really disappointed, and glad to be moving away from Sawyer and Co.
Laughably poor service. Would suggest you avoid! Supposed to move in to property on 10th July, incredibly poor communication between staff, we have repeatedly been told “we’ll call you back” and then they never do. They’re happy to take your money but that’s it. No clue what’s going on and whether or not we have a home to move in to 🤷🏻♀️
Poor service and everything left to last minute. Property rented with a working but expired carbon monoxide alarm. Tenancy agreement for signature not provided until less than 24 hours before move in date. Would not recommend
