I had a quite complicated house move and Sophie and Freddie were there all the way through to help with the sale. The whole Team was approachable and very professional. The missing star is for the price, as their fees are slightly higher than other agents' but they make it worth, so I am glad I saw through that when I choose them!
A great, efficient team that manage my property well and find new tenants promptly when the apartment is vacated. Very happy with the service.
My initial experience moving into a Martin and Co property was decent. I got moved in quickly and issues got dealt with quickly. They used to charge me £90 for any minor change, like re-signing the tenancy agreement, or another person moving in. I always found this was a rip off but I had no choice but to pay it really. When it came to re-signing the contract, they always wanted more and more money, usually an extra £50 per month. Over the past year or so, the experience was pretty bad. I was asked to pay an extra £100 per month, all the while the condition of the building was deteriorating with mold and leaks, and nothing had improved in the flat either. They asked for this like it was nothing, no care of whether I could afford this or not. I choose to move out for this reason and they couldn't have cared less, despite me being a good tenant of theirs for 6 years who always paid on time and in full without fail. What astounded me was that they allowed potential tenants to view my property before they had even seen it themselves as they had seemingly lost their own keys to my flat years ago. They weren't exactly clear in their email as they said "property viewings" and I thought this meant inspectors. They were too eager to move them into my home of 6 years and to get even more money out of them. I had to chase up getting my security desposit back, which I thought I'd get most of it back, but I was in for a shock. The only issue I thought I would be charged for was that my oven wasn't thoroughly cleaned, so I expected a charge for that, but not £285!! And £120 for a "bath reseal" is outrageous. Surely this is wear and tear!! I decided to cut my losses as it was clear they're just all about money and have little humanity. I don't blame the staff I interacted with in their customer service, they were just doing their job and were friendly to interact with. The contract repairmen were also friendly and sorted problems to the extent Martin and Co would pay them to. Let's hope the government sort of more council rented properties so less profiteering happens over someone just trying to keep a roof over their head.
I'm a landlord, and have used Martin & Co for many years. Their quality of service has taken a dip recently, so suggest you shop around.
Rubbish on line help service, tell u they can help, then spend 10 mins asking u what it is u need, the reason why your contacting them and then they say they can't help waste of 15 minutes
Everything was ok when the tenancy started. But everything from there was downhill. In the end, they deducted half from my deposit for an apartment i cleaned before vacating. the excuse was resealing the bathtub. I am not sure if that is going to cost 400 pounds. Many times, my partner had talked with the agency and the rude behaviour from the staff was the last straw. The thing is the agency has their priority set, which the owner, not the tenant. So in the end they wont be serving you in any form. I'd never let another propery from Martin & Co.
I had an incredibly frustrating and unprofessional experience with This branch. My application was initially approved by the landlord, and I provided all requested financial documentation, including savings and investments that far exceeded the affordability criteria. However, my application was later denied with vague reasoning and no transparency. The agency refused to provide a clear explanation as to why my references were deemed insufficient, despite my finances being more than adequate. I was also informed that my application was impacted by a “tip-off,” yet they failed to disclose any details or evidence to support this claim. This raises serious concerns about fairness and professionalism. Communication throughout the process was inconsistent and misleading—I received messages suggesting everything was completed, only to later be told my application was rejected. When I asked for clarification, I was met with dismissive responses
This is an update. I was with Martin and co for 6 years, they are the most unprofessional, lazy letting company I have ever been with, they say they will do things and then don't, towards the end of my contract, I had a mouse and rat problem, they didn't do anything about it, until the 3rd time I told them, the work that is completed is not safe. They took out a carbon monoxide detector and didn't replace it. I had to get the private Housing Standards Authority involved in Sheffield because they didn't fix the leaks. The heating, the front door, patio doors, there where grease stains on the bedroom walls, marks on the floors and carpets... Broken bath panel and the day I moved in, no heating and no hot water, when I told them they have 24hrs to fix it by law... They tried to serve an unwarranted section 21 notice within hours of moving in, they bully and abuse their position, DO NOT EVER WORK OR LET FROM THIS COMPANY
Very unprofessional never answer the phone or indeed ring you back when you leave a message and also sometimes don’t reply to emails. Also do there utmost to make sure you don’t get your deposit back by missing things off the original itinerary by trying to charge you for previous things that were wrong with the property. Charge £56 to replace a lightbulb when I checked that every lightbulb was working! Charged for a broken wardrobe that was broken before I moved in but had others replaced as the landlord apparently couldn’t afford to replace all of them!! Mucky sofa when I moved in so I had a throw over it for a year to cover it and then this was also charged on the cleaning bill! Shower head was disgusting and I bleached it whilst I lived there and then they charged me for this!! Apparently landlord lived abroad and would never reply to requests so Martin and Co did the final viewing which they also added a broken balcony door which was already faulty and was stated in the original before I moved in! Avoid this poor outfit at all costs
I rented an apartment in Merment House (Kelham) for 1 year through this company. I would advise all renters to steer clear for your own sake. On moving into the property, it was still full of the previous tenants left over stuff and it was filthy throughout which meant we had to keep all of our stuff in boxes in one corner of the flat while they removed and brought the flat to a semi acceptable state (still nowhere near clean). Throughout the tenancy, many of our complaints and issues were ignored or given hacky fixes which led to the issues cropping up again towards the end of the tenancy. The landlord was not willing to pay for anything to be fixed/updated unless it was a legal requirement but still had the cheek to try and raise our rent by £100 if we wanted to renew the tenancy. At the end of the tenancy, this company had the audacity to then try to withhold £300 of my deposit for CLEANING and for sealant which was already in a state. Luckily this wasn't my first rodeo with parasitic letting agencies so I had taken about 80 photos throughout the flat when moving in/out and made sure the issues were documented via email so thankfully the DPS awarded my full deposit back to me. However, I had to wait over 2 months for that decision, leaving me out of pocket £300 which wasn't ideal in the current climate. I would strongly advise anyone looking to rent in Sheffield to either steer clear of this lot or take similar precautions or they will absolutely try to steal from you.
