Advertised a property as furnished but the furnishings are in very bad conditions, said to discuss with the landlord. We paid part of the holding and continued asking about the property. They assured us they would speak with the landlord. A few days later, they denied ever promising to speak with the landlord and said the staff that promised to speak with the landlord no longer works with them. They have refused to refund our deposit. Do not pay any fees to them until you are satisfied with their answer regarding any questions you have!!

Good morning Jessica. I’m sorry that you feel the need to write this review. The member of staff you spoke to regarding the replacement chairs in the property, advised you that we can put it forward to the landlord but cannot guarantee this. It was ultimately down to the prospective tenant should they wish to continue with their application even though there is no guarantees regarding the furniture. You had then paid your holding deposit based on this. My colleague had then chased yourselves to submit your references and to pay the rest of your holding deposit as we assumed you still wanted to proceed. We did speak to the landlord about the furniture and at this moment in time the landlord was not in a position to replace it. Unfortunately we are not able to proceed with works without the landlords authorisation. After this, you had spoke to another colleague to advise you were withdrawing your application, and accused her of racism. We do not discriminate and we work on the landlords instructions. As per your tenancy guide, should you withdraw, your holding deposit is retained. Terrible experience from their property management 2021-2023, constant staff turnover, some of the contractors are good however. But some of the correspondence and remarks I received from them was very unprofessional and unappreciated

Extremely, extremely awful. I've rented from them for 2 years and given up even trying to communicate as the phone and emails go unanswered for weeks. I just try to communicate directly with my landlord now as they have been consistently useless since before I even moved in.

I rent an apartment almost one year, but it was a nightmare! First, before we moved in, we always could not find the agent; furthermore, they could not guarantee when we can move in after we paid the deposit! In addition, when we moved in, the room is not cleaned! We had to take photos and videos to them, but they said the room was cleaned and no one would come and clean! Second, we reported the repaired issues since January. However, when we move out in August, the issues are still there. In the meantime, we called and emailed them, they just said they could not find the landlord! But they could find the landlord's son who wanted raise the rent! Third, after we moved out more than 2 weeks, they still waited for landlord's response to release of my deposit. We have no choice, but email DPS about it. I will definitely not rent or buy any property from Martin & Co Sheffield Letting & Estate Agents! I will definitely not recommend to others!

Hi Lin, thank you for your review. I am sorry that you feel this way. I can confirm that a previous colleague kept you up to date throughout the application process and we had your move in date confirmed once we knew when internal works were going to be completed. As you can appreciate, we would not move a tenant in whilst works are still outstanding. In relation to the maintenance works in question, we are unable to proceed with works without the landlords/owners authorisation especially if the quoted works are above the authorised spend limit we have in place. We advised you that we could not get in touch with the landlord and then we had heard from a relative of the landlord and was advised they were unwell. We work on behalf of the landlord and we have to act upon their instructions. Again, please accept our apologies for the delay in things. I can confirm the deposit was released back to you in full within 10 working days. Many thanks

They manage the rental property I was in and they were awful, took over 6 months to fix basic things like broken windows, doors and locks.. left with leaks for weeks on end, no heating, broken fridge.. the list goes on. They are terrible at managing the property, ridiculously slow and have the highest staff turn over I've ever heard of, completely incompetent at managing a property, even when everything goes through their online system as they demand, butit takes weeks and phonecalls to action! The management needs to take a look at their services as they are not fit for purpose.

Do not go with these guys, tried ripping us off saying the oven isn’t clean and the cupboards but when we moved in it was already dirty left over fries in the oven cracks spider webs in the cupboards which we cleaned ourselves when we moved on, I also took pictures left the place in the same condition I moved in with, so many more things they disappointed with throughout the tenancy so unprofessional, good thing I have the evidence as if it wasn’t already clean I’m not paying for it to be cleaned. Evidence will be submitted to TPDS with time stamps of my pictures. Never will I think of using Martin & Co again.

I am sorry you were unhappy with the landlords request for funds from the deposit. We have an inventory in place to protect both landlords and tenants in case of an event for dilapidations at the point of check out. There is the dispute service which tenants are able to use when this situation occurs. You will have received this information throughout the process. Many thanks
