Moved into a property last September expecting to find it in good condition especially since we were told repairs would be made to things when we viewed the property. It was in a bad condition with lots of repairs needed doing. The inventory was 90% wrong and we also received it late. They lied about the fact we had reported repairs. We were in the property 6 months and one repair was only done the week before we moved out. Another (rotten back door) wasn't done at all. Of course whitegates blame the contractor for being too busy etc. Another urgent repair took 5 weeks before they even came to look at it even though I said it was urgent multiple times over the phone. You have to keep chasing things up and can't leave them to do it themselves. They seem to be amateur agents with a lack of knowledge on simple things that they really should know about. They have bad practices, one of which Coventry city council told me was illegal. (Holding a deposit until proof of council tax is paid) They didn't return our full deposit and made a deduction themselves which they had no legal right to do. This has now been rectified after threats of taking it further if they didn't transfer the full amount. Even when provided with hard evidence they don't take responsibility. . I would recommend you avoid like this estate agent

We cannot relate this review to a tenancy. We would dearly love to ascertain who wrote this review so we can attend to the issues. For the record, we will return deposits as quickly as the terms and conditions are adhered to. Often tenants fail to settle their final service bills and this will delay the return of the deposit. We are very clear regarding service bill obligations within our correspondence and it is also clearly stated within the tenancy agreement. Properties are normally advertised as furnished or unfurnished and I would hope that this would help to clarify confusion over furniture expectations. We cannot be held responsible for the cost of service bills. We have no control over this. Utility companies deal directly with tenants. It is frustrating not being able to communicate with the individual who left this review. We are unable to verify if the review is authentic or not. Perhaps Marin Marin would consider notifying us as to which property this refers to and we can then properly assess the complaint and any potential failings.

Do not use this agency! They were very helpful to help me find a place to live at the beginning but after I moved it, they were not helpful at all. I was locked in the flat as the door lock jammed. And had to wait until a contractor came out and then received a call from the agency telling me I will be charged for this as ‘nothing was wrong with it,’ but I don’t understand why they think I would randomly lock myself in and miss my lectures on purpose. As for the inventory, the flat was not in the best condition to begin with but when it came to moving out they had blamed it on me. I had sent them a video of the flat prior to me moving showing them the broken wardrobe, but they tried telling they fixed it and I had apparently broken it again. They stated they will charge me an extra months rent fee although my tenancy ended on a specific date but they was sneaky and said I still had to let them know the date I was moving out which was obvious. As for my deposit, I was told I would get this back in 30 days of my end of tenancy. It’s been over a month and still I have not got it back. I have emailed a few times and when I really got annoyed now they are telling me I need to send final proof of bills which they could have asked me before to sort this earlier. They probably thought I forgot about my deposit as they made me wait so long! To be honest, I will never go back to whitegates! If you would like a suggestion, I would recommend envisage agency and the end of far gosford, they are lovely! I used them for my first year at uni, they were so so helpful, and I absolutely regret not going back there!

Called the agency to ask for more information about the amount of rent that was due to be paid, the lady who picked up the phone was incredibly rude, gave no information whatsoever and just hung up the phone. Considering the agency fee they charge for their services, this was completely unacceptable.

You also implied that the inventory description was overly positive. I read the communication between my colleague and yourself and found it to be polite and business like. The inventory description clearly represented the condition of the property 'warts and all' and stated the imperfections within the property. It was a fair reflection. As discussed, perhaps you may consider a more objective review rather than using such emotive and subjective language. It would be far more helpful.

Wish i could give them zero. Basically threatened to end our tenancy when we repeatedly asked for an outstanding issue to be fixed. Seemed very reluctant to allow us to speak to the landlord to resolve issues. Overall extremely unprofessional.

As discussed Craig on 2 occasions now, it was the landlord who threatened to end your tenancy. You are aware that we did not agree with the landlord's decision and told them so. Furthermore, all of your repairs were passed on to the landlord. There was no reluctance on our part. Your review punishes us for matters that were beyond our control and whilst I agree and am sorry that you had a bad experience, I would very appreciate it if you could alter your review to reflect these facts, which you know to be true.
